What is an endodontist?

An endodontist is a specialist who focuses on dental problems that involve the root and surrounding tissues of the tooth. Endodontists complete a minimum of two years of advanced residency training following dental school. They manage both routine and complex cases referred by general dentists.

How long will treatment take?

Treatment is usually completed in one appointment. The duration of the appointment ranges from 30 – 90 minutes depending on the complexity of the case. Occasionally, a second appointment will be required.

Should I stop taking medications before my visit?

No. Patients should continue to take all medications as directed by their physician.

What hours are you open?

The office is open Monday through Thursday, 7:30AM – 5:00PM. Patients of record who need to contact us after hours will be provided with an emergency contact number.

Should I see my dentist after treatment?

Yes, patients will need to follow-up with their dentist. Once treatment is completed, we send a summary letter to the referring dentist. Patients are instructed to contact their dentists after the procedure. Your dentist will decide what type of restoration is required to best protect the tooth long term.

Are there alternatives to root canal treatment?

Dr. Hamann and Dr. Lundstrom will discuss alternatives prior to treatment. Saving a natural tooth with root canal treatment is often the most conservative option.

Will I be able to return to work following my appointment?

Yes. Following a root canal there are minimal restrictions.

Are root canals always successful?

Root canal treatment has a very high success rate. These predictable procedures have been performed for decades, but thanks to recent advances, treatment is now faster and more precise.
